1. John Rendle born about 1750. Cooper by trade. Lived in Polperro Cornwall England. There was a large Rendle family living around Polperro at the time – I believe all of them were related to one another. It happens that the Wesley brothers preached regularly in the vicinity of Polperro and the whole family was strongly influenced. John married Mary Perry on the 18 Apr 1778 and the couple proceeded to have 11 children – one of whom was John Rendle.
2. John Rendle was born in Polperro in late 1780 and was christened in Talland on 1st of January 1781. John would become a “Cordwainer” (maker of NEW shoes and boots). He married Mary Jeffery on 29th of May 1806, in Lansallos, Cornwall. The couple moved to Bideford in Devon where John followed his trade for the rest of his life. This John was an exceptional man. He was a tireless Wesleyan “Lay” preacher and in a book of the time was credited with a major part of the success of the Wesleyan church in the area. More than that it seems that he actually practiced what he preached! He became very widely respected and used this position to persue many “good works”. He was the instigator and primary mover behind the construction of a new “British School” in Bideford. Also a new Poorhouse as well as the construction (and later the extension) of a Wesleyan Hall. John and Mary had 7 children – one of whom was “John Rendle” born 1812.
3. John Rendle (born 1812) became a Tanner and Currier. In 1840 he migrated to Prince Edward Island (at the time PEI was almost a colony of Bideford, Devon – there was a very strong trade and colonial relationship between the two places.) He established a Tannery on PEI. It seems he married someone named “Mary” in PEI. Mary died in 1866. It is not known whether there were children from this first marriage. He then married “Mary Jane Frame” in around 1867 or 1868. In one book it is noted that he was an enthusiastic member of the Wesleyan church in Charlottetown (PEI) and especially a noted member of the choir. Mary Jane had two children (twins), Jane Thirza and John Edward on the 1st of January 1869 but she died 10 days after the birth. John married again to someone named “Henrietta”.
4. John Edward Rendle was born in PEI on 1st of January 1869. He initially became a “bookbinder”. About 1900 he married Mary Alice Abbott in PEI. In 1904 he moved to British Columbia (Valdez Island) as a Wesleyan Missionary AND schoolteacher – he was paid a salary as a schoolteacher by the Canadian department of Indian affairs. Later he would move to Nitinat and thence to Bella Coola. This family had 4 children one of whom was: Weyliesei/Weylielsei/Waighetsee/Weighelsei Blanche Rendle (her first name is spelled differently almost every time it is written). She was born on 25th November 1906 in New Westminster, British Columbia.
