Elizabeth KEEFER was born on 24 November 1794. She married Jacob GARLETS Sr. circa 1816. She evidently moved to OH and then IN with her sons after Jacob died in 1863. She died on 1 January 1868 at age 73. She was buried in Brighton Chapel Cemetery, Greenfield Twp., LaGrange Co. IN.

1. Joseph  was born on 3 January 1817 in Somerset Co., PA. He married Elizabeth (--?--) circa 1844 in PA. He appeared on the census of 22 October 1850 in Greenville Twp., Somerset Co., PA. He died on 30 September 1858 in Greenville Twp., Somerset Co., PA, at age 41. He was in Greenville Church Cemetery, Greenville Twp., Somerset Co., PA. He was Sawyer (ref. census) in 1860.   (This is probably the same Joseph. The dates do not exactly match, but there are similarities.)
 

2. Daniel  married Lucy (--?--). He was born in 1819 in Somerset Co., PA. He died on 18 May 1858 in Somerset Co., PA. He was buried in Greenville Church Cemetery, Greenville Twp., Somerset Co., PA.
 

3. Peter  was born on 15 December 1820 in Somerset Co., PA. He married Maria FAIR on 28 January 1846 in Tuscarawas Co., OH. He appeared on the census of 7 June 1880 in Greenfield Twp., LaGrange Co., IN. He died on 7 April 1909 in LaGrange Co., IN, at age 88. He was buried on 9 April 1909 in Brighton Chapel Cemetery, LaGrange Co., IN.

Mrs. Maria Garlets, of Mongo, wife of Peter Garlets, one of the prominent citizens of that place, died on May 30th, 1890, aged 61 years, two months, and five days.  She was born March 25, 1829 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Rachel Fair, and on January 29 1846, was married to Peter Garlets.  Seventeen years later she and her husband came to Indiana and settled on a farm near Mongo, where they remained until six weeks ago, when they removed to the village.  She leaves, beside her husband, three sons and a daughter surviving.  The funeral, which occurred last Sunday at the German Baptist church near Lexington, was attended by a large number of neighbors and friends, and the services were conducted by Rev. J. P. Jones, assisted by Rev. Phiel. - LaGrange Standard, LaGrange, Indiana, May 1890

"PETER GARLETS was born December 15, 1820, in Pennsylvania, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Garlets, natives of Pennsylvania. His father died in his native State, and his mother in Indiana. Peter Garlets lived in his native State until the age of twenty-three, and learned carpentering there. He was married in Ohio, January 29, 1846, to Miss Maria Fair; she and her mother, Rachel Fair, were natives of Pennsylvania, and her father, John Fair, of Ireland; they came to Indiana in 1876, and he died in this county. Mrs. Fair survives him. Mr. Garlets, in 1863, sold his farm of eighty acres in Ohio and purchased 160 acres of his present farm in this township, which he has greatly improved, furnishing it with numerous fine buildings, wind mill, etc. Mr. Garlets subsequently purchased 165 acres in Springfield Township, and is a thorough farmer. They have four children, John, Jacob, Mary A. and Daniel, all married except Jacob, who resides at home; John and Mary live in Springfield, and Daniel in this township.

4. Rebeka  married Conrad BAKER. She was born on 12 August 1825 in Somerset Co., PA.
 

5. Jacob Jr was born in 1827 in Somerset Co., PA. He married Sarah MILLER circa 1855 in Somerset Co., PA. He was farmer (ref. census) in 1860. He appeared on the census of 3 June 1880 in Springfield Twp., LaGrange Co., IN. He married Lucy BENNETT on 1 September 1881 in LaGrange Co., IN. He died in 1904 in LaGrange Co., IN.  Children with Sarah: Jesse, Annanias, Hamilton
 

6. Solomon  was born on 7 April 1830 in Somerset Co., PA. He died on 6 September 1850 in Somerset Co., PA, at age 20.
 

7. Catherine  was born on 22 August 1832 in Greenville Twp., Somerset Co., PA. She married Miles THOMAS circa 1851 in PA. She married Solomon ALBRIGHT circa 1858.

Hello:  I am trying to find some information on the ggggrandmother of my children.  Her name was Catherine Garlitz, her father Jacob and her mother Elizabeth Keefer.  Catherine was born 8/22/1832 and died 4/11/1898.  She married Solomon Albright.  However, before this marriage she had a child by Miles Deloss Thomas on 3/25/1853.  The child was also named Miles Deloss Thomas.  The father Miles then moved back to Conn. and married someone else.  I am trying to find more information on the father of Miles (1853).  Because this was apparently in illigetimate birth do you think there are any records of the birth, or something that would list the fathers DOB etc.?  The Thomas family lived for a while in Greenville, Pine Run, a place called Delos family farm.  The child Miles (1853) stayed close to the Garlitz family, especially his grandfather Jacob.  Thanks for you help. 8. John  was born on 2 January 1835 in Somerset Co., PA. He married Elizabeth M. A. BAER circa 1858 in Somerset Co., PA. He and Elizabeth resided in 1864 in LaGrange Co., IN. He appeared on the census of 7 June 1880 in Greenfield Twp., LaGrange Co., IN. He died on 15 December 1906 in LaGrange Co., IN, at age 71.
 

9. Henry  was born on 19 November 1838 in Somerset Co., PA. He married Lydia (unknown)
